Collaboratively Managing Eating Disorders in the Adult Population

Presenters: Dr. Susan Wnuk Ph.D, C.Psych & Dr. Marina Abdel Malak, BSc.N, MD

This 2-hour-workshop will focus on identifying the relationship between mental health issues and eating disorders, including common causes and risk factors. The facilitators will use case-based learning to help attendees understand the etiology, prevalence, assessment tools, principles of medical management and treatment for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

Workshop Objectives

Learners who actively engage and complete this workshop will be able to:

• Apply an integrated and collaborative approach when working with patients with eating disorders
• Describe the physical and mental health assessment of patients with eating disorders
• Discuss an approach to managing the physical and mental health needs of patients with eating disorders
• Identify an inter-professional and team-based approach to managing eating disorders in primary care and other health care settings
• Learn about available clinical resources

This Continuing Professional Development Workshop is accredited by University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine for Mainpro+ and Section 1 credits/hours. Upon successful completion of all requirements of this workshop, attendees can claim 3.0 hours/credits.

Who Should Register?

All healthcare teams and providers (i.e. nurses, physicians, social workers, occupational and physical therapists etc.), as well as managers and administrators in primary care, hospital, long-term care and community care settings who are working with patients and families to address complex care issues, with a particular focus on co-existing mental and physical needs may register.
