Understanding and Managing Distress in Cancer: An Evidence Based Approach

Continuing Professional Development Workshop accredited by University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine

Presenters: Dr. Nourhan Mohamed, MD, FRCPC & Lisa Roelfsema, MSW, RSW

This 2-hour-workshop will focus on developing an inter-professional approach to distress in patients with cancer. During this workshop, facilitators will provide a working definition of distress in cancer and introduce a variety of evidence based tools for detection in clinical settings. We will also discuss different strategies for management as well as available hospital based and community resources that can be utilized by the allied health team when involved in the care of patients with cancer. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to reflect on a clinical case and build on skills gained from MP3C Foundational courses and/or Practice Improvement workshops.

This Continuing Professional Development Workshop is accredited by University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine for Mainpro+ and Section 1 credits/hours. Upon successful completion of all requirements of this workshop, attendees can claim 3.0 hours/credits.

Who Should Register?

All healthcare teams and providers (i.e. nurses, physicians, social workers, occupational and physical therapists etc.), as well as managers and administrators in primary care, hospital, long-term care and community care settings who are working with patients and families to address complex care issues, with a particular focus on co-existing mental and physical needs may register.
