Recap: January 15 MH Primary Care Network Interim Leaders Meeting 2

16 Jan 2020 4:56 PM | Contact Us (Administrator)

Happy New Year! It is the year 20/20, and some say it is the year of clear vision — and for the Mississauga Halton Primary Care Network, we are laying a clear vision for our road ahead!

On January 15, 2020, our MH Primary Care Network interim leaders met for their second meeting to discuss options for a future governance structure. To enable a rich discussion, a governance survey was sent to interim leaders to complete in advance of the session, and a panel + Q & A was organized where representatives from three different Primary Care organizations shared what has worked well and what needs to be improved within their organizations.

Panelists who generously offered their time and expertise were: Dr. Carolyn Malec and Dr. Michael Kates from the former MH Primary Care Network, Jessica Wooder from the Hamilton Academy of Medicine, and Dr. Thuy-Nga (Tia) Pham from the East Toronto Family Practice Network.

These panelists also offered to be contacted by anyone in the community who might have questions or want to learn more about their respective organizations. If so, please send an e-mail to Bonnie Scott at bonnie.scott@lhins.on.ca with your request.

At the end of the facilitated session, the group had reviewed the aggregated governance survey results (found in the presentation at link above), explored three different organizational models, and had a brief discussion on key themes. There was consensus on the need for a more formalized Primary Care organization with clear governance, accountability, policies, and procedures. However, it was unclear which mechanisms would be pursued to create this more “formal” group (e.g., incorporation, charitable status). Further information on benefits and drawbacks of the different options will be presented at the next Leaders meeting in early February for discussion.

It was also clear that to move forward on many of the governance decisions, the broader community needs to provide their feedback on key topics. These include “what services and benefits will the MH PCN provide?” and “how will we define our membership?”. These topics will be the focus of our Community Meeting on January 28th — we hope you can join us!
